OK, so WKRP in Cincinnatti wasn't a documentary, but I have worked with all of those people at one point or another over the course of my radio career.

  • First there was Andy Travis (he called himself Ken Showers), the nice guy that gave me my rookie job at WHTC.
  • You couldn't meet Tom McHale, the veteran newsman who still used a manual typewriter at WBCK in 1998 without thinking about Les Nessman.
  • EVERY station has a Herb Tarlick and that character is NOT an exaggeration.
  • The inimitable Zane Stewart (RIP) was an early supporter of mine who had the manic energy yet world-weariness of  Dr. Johnny Fever.
  • Yes, I've gotten in trouble for things I've said on-the-air (never "booger") and been called into The Big Guy's office.
  • I once dallied with a Jennifer type...and, if I'm honest, a Bailey Quarters too.  (Names withheld to protect the "innocent".)
  • Over the last 20 years or so I've been lucky enough to work with a couple of cats as cool as Venus.

Growing up watching WKRP in Cincinnatti,  I never dreamed I'd be doing this for a living.  I'm reminded that I'm lucky to be doing what I love.

If you loved watching the show, enjoy the DVD...and thanks for listening.
